Astrid is a singer-songwriter with influences that range from classical to heavy rock, with a healthy dose of blues and country. Her discography dates back to 1984 and boasts over forty releases, including four solo albums and amultitude of credits as a side-musician and background singer. Through the years, she has played stages large and small, from the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Hollywood to Paradiso in Amsterdam, Rock in Rio, and everywhere in between. Citing her primary influences as David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, and Black Sabbath, she plays a 12-string like it’s a weapon and isn’t afraid to change her strings on the day of a show. As a tip to her hard rocking roots, her solo acoustic shows have been compared to Alice In Chains Unplugged, and Music Connection Magazine once said she was “more closely related to Angus…” Music Express magazine describes her as “evocative, stunning, soulful… a gifted songwriter,” and Blues Hamilton rightly notes that there is “a musical surprise around every corner.” Young has released four solo albums: Brain flower in 1995, Matinee in 2002, Pokalolo Paniolo (as iST) in 2003, and One Night at Giant Rock, the acid-folk epic which was produced by Victor DeLorenzo, an original Violent Femme. The vinyl re-release of One Night at Giant Rock saw two songs at the top of indie radio charts in 2024, and a more recent single of Lay Me Down hit number one in Spain. Astrid’s new album, How the Beautiful Get Away With Murder, was produced by with legendary Eddie Kramer and features David J(Love & Rockets/Bauhaus) on bass, Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes) on drums, Tim Welch (Carole Pope/Images in Vogue) on guitar, and an ensemble of luminary guest musicians, including Neil Young himself. Following in her luminary father’s footsteps, Young wrote the Canadian bestseller Being Young: Scott, Neil and Me(Insomniac Press), soon to be an audio book. She has authored several screenplays, made a film, is a certified sommelier, and is currently working on a work of genre fiction titled Haunted When the Minutes Drag.

Artist Biography

Joel Schechter-Scar
I am an amateur musician who has been playing guitar and writing and recording songs for as long as I can remember. Throughout my career in business, I always held making music sacred, the perfect escape from the pressures of life, and a healthy artistic balance to the logistics of my commercial demands.
Scar for me is the most meaningful and personal song that I have ever worked on. Co-written with Chi Huynh, the song explores my acknowledgement of the enduring pain and damage my departure from a difficult marriage caused my son. Leaving the residence where my child would reside was a brutal decision, and thankfully years later we are in a much better place, but there is still a lot to try and repair.
I need to thank Chi for helping to push me to a place where I could share the pain musically. Also major thanks to my college pal Larry Chesin for the great lead guitar work, to Ian Janco for the superb vocals, and for Chi’s work on the arrangement and the creation of a chorus that took the song to another level.
I hope this can be shared by the many parents who may have left for the right reasons, but still understand that their child will never be totally free of the scars that divorce and separation creates.
